New Pledge to Meet Endowment Goals | Donate Today
Established December 2017
Proceeds from the Henry L. Gholz Endowment will provide support annually for SEEDS national Field Trips for 20 students from diverse backgrounds and interests to explore the science of ecology. Students will visit a Long-term Ecological Research Site (LTER), Biological Field Station or similar active field site honoring Henry’s long-standing role in the National Science Foundation LTER program, and in exposing young scientists to field research.
The trips will offer students the opportunity to interact with scientists and professional ecologists in a field and laboratory setting. The funds will support the field trips as a whole, with students being selected through the usual application and review process. Most participants will be undergraduates, but graduate mentors may also be included. Read the original announcement here: December 8, 2017 EcoTone Blog: Announcing the Henry L. Gholz SEEDS Field Trips: An enduring endowment for diversity and discovery.
The fund is to be established as an endowment in perpetuity and the principal invested by ESA accordingly. Only income earned from the principal will be used and additional contributions may be added to grow the endowment.
All promotional information online and in print about the SEEDS national field trips will be named: The Henry L. Gholz SEEDS Field Trip.
Goal
Our fundraising goal is to raise $400,000 by 2024. As of March 2022, we have received more than $230,577 in donations.
Every donation counts. The $100,000 pledge from Dr. Phil Taylor, will ensure that we meet our goal. At the end of March, 2023 we surpassed our targeted 2024 milestone by growing the endowment to over $441,000.
