$100,000 Challenge Gift met
ESA has met Phillip Taylor’s $100,000 challenge gift to the Henry L. Gholz National SEEDS Field Trip Endowment
When long-time ESA member and donor, Phillip Taylor, pledged a gift of $100,000 in February 2022 to spur us on to our goal of $400,000 for the Henry L Gholz National SEEDS Field Trip endowment, we thought it would take us two years to get there. Thanks to the generosity of the ESA community, we reached our goal in one year! This first phase of the endowment will fund one SEEDS national field trips into perpetuity.
These field trips to ecologically significant sites are a cornerstone of ESA’s 26 –year old program and provide meaningful experiences in ecology to undergraduates that are underrepresented in our science. Phillip, a colleague of Henry Gholz at the National Science Foundation, was inspired by Henry’s commitment to the next generation of ecologists.

The SEEDS Endowment
Your contributions allow SEEDS to decrease our dependence on external funding. When you make a contribution to the Henry L. Gholz SEEDS Field Trip endowment, you help secure an independent fund that enables underrepresented and minority students to discover new and big ideas in research, a passion for science, and the wide range of possible careers in ecological fields.
ESA SEEDS is grateful for all the donations and pledges that have already been received to establish the Henry L. Gholz Fund.
