PPE Secretary Election 2020
It is time to elect a new PPE Section Secretary! We have one candidate for the position this year, Gaurav Kandlikar. Read Gaurav’s candidate statement and view his CV, then vote below.
“My love for plants has grown from a childhood fascination with tropical forests in southern India. I now study how interactions between plants and soil microbes shape plant population dynamics and species coexistence. My PhD dissertation includes theoretical and empirical work on how abiotic environmental variation and plant-soil feedbacks shape plant diversity, especially in California grasslands. This fall I will begin a postdoc at the University of Missouri, where I plan to continue working towards a mechanistic and general understanding of plant-microbe interactions.
The Plant Population Ecology section has helped me attend the past two ESA conferences with the Student Travel Grants, and I’ve really enjoyed making new friends and professional connections at the section mixers. I am excited by the opportunity to help grow the community by serving as Secretary. I will continue the Early Career Profiles series, especially highlighting members from diverse backgrounds and institutions. As secretary I would also be happy to help PPE members organize plant ecology-focused Symposia, workshops, or other organized sessions for ESA conferences. Finally, I think there’s a great opportunity for PPE to build connections with other ESA activities (e.g. more direct engagement with plant ecology undergraduate researchers in the SEEDS program), and would be excited to help with such efforts.”
