The Historical Records Committee (est. 1944) encourages members of the Ecological Society of America to conserve documents and photos pertinent to the Society’s history and the history of ecology, and makes the records available.

A Society as large as ESA depends on the involvement of its members in a variety of committees, each dedicated to carrying out some aspect of the organization’s mission.

At its origins in 1916, ESA established the offices of President, Vice-President, and Secretary-Treasurer. A Business Manager was added in 1920, and the offices of Secretary and Treasurer were split in 1939.

The Ecological Society of America presents a variety of awards to worthy recipients each year; chapters and sections have also created recognition opportunities.

Since its earliest days, the Ecological Society has actively published a Bulletin reporting its activities and scholarly journals for its members and other ecologists. In his 1976 history of the Society, Bob Burgess summarized ESA’s publication efforts to that date. At that time, only the Bulletin, Ecology, and Ecological Monographs were included; these three are still published today.
