Learning Objectives:

As a result of this workshop, students will be able to:

  1. Describe how current environmental challenges are related to human systems.
  2. Evaluate different human responses to environmental challenges
  3. Improve understanding of ecological principles.
  4. Develop research questions to explore how ecosystem services (food, fiber, air, water and energy), quality of life, and economics are related.
  5. Understand tools that can be used to evaluate different policy responses to environmental change.
  6. Analyze spatially explicit interactions between policy, land-use and land-cover change, and ecosystems using GIS.
  7. Apply principles for effective science communication to both scientific and general audiences
    Understand the basis of socioeconomic and ecological datasets.
  8. Gain familiarity with NEON framework.
