Two studies by the Cavanilles Institute of Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology (ICBiBe) of the University of Valencia provide new insights into the factors affecting the survival and territory occupancy of the Bonelli’s eagle (Aquila fasciata) in the Valencian Community. Human activities and biodiversity loss in its habitat call for conservation actions to ensure the long-term survival of this iconic bird of prey, which is currently endangered. The studies have been published in the Journal of Wildlife Management and Ecological Applications.

These studies delve into the mortality patterns and habitat preferences of the species, which has seen its population decline by nearly 50% in the last 25 years, leading to its classification as endangered under the Valencian Catalogue of Threatened Species.
